The Zettlr HowTo video series aims at introducing many of the features of the application to you. The series is meant as a starting point for learning ab. Zettlr is my own approach of bringing together people from the 21st century — you — and technology from the 21st century. It has a lot of unique features that make it stand out from other apps. And this is where you come in! You write text everyday and you deal with a lot of notes.

Welcome to Zettlr Translate! Here you can find translations of our Markdown editor which you can download. You can also download the translations right from within our app. Do you want to improve the translation quality yourself? We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. With Zettlr, writing professional texts is easy and motivating: Whether you are a college student, a researcher, a journalist, or an author — Zettlr has the right tools for you. Watch the video or continue reading to see what they are!

Zettlr binaries are also available for setup on Arch Linux installations. The binaries can be found here on AUR.

The AUR Zettlr binaries are provided by third-party supporters who compile the app regularly. Make sure to double-check the binaries before installing!

Next Steps

With an incredible amount of functionality, Zettlr can prove overwhelming sometimes. The documentation helps you don't get lost in the app!

Zettlr is a Free and Open Source App (FOSS). This means that we provide the app free of charge. However, server costs, certificates, and other bills incur running costs on maintaining the app. Therefore, we'd like to kindly ask for either a one-time donation via PayPal, or becoming a patron over at Patreon, which helps us keep the project alive.

For any Open Source project, a live community is one of the most important things. The community supports new users, helps with housekeeping such as translating the app, and suggests new features. Being part of a community is an awesome treat we strongly recommend!

After downloading Zettlr, make sure to play through the interactive tutorial to get started with the application. Make sure to read the documentation as well, especially to understand the features Zettlr implements differently than traditional Word processors.

We also feature a YouTube account with video tutorials and other explanations. Make sure to subscribe there, as new features are likely getting additional videos in our HowTo-series!

If you are stuck, make sure to join Zettlr's big community around the web: We're here to help you! You can find the community on Reddit and the forum. And in case you spot an error, we're happy if you report it on GitHub.

Last but not least, we would like to say thank you for downloading the app. If you enjoy it, you can always support its development with a donation over on PayPal or recurring on Patreon.

Welcome to the family!

Given the update frequency has picked up and this packages popularity, I wanted to post the update script I've been using. That way, if a new version drops and I fall behind, you can still update your own.

I just installed this package for the first time today. The file in /usr/bin/zettlr was linked to /opt/Zettlr/zettlr, but the actual binary is /opt/Zettlr/Zettlr.

It was an easy fix, but perhaps the last line in PKGBUILD should be updated.

This line will link to the binary inside the build directory.ln -s $pkgdir/opt/Zettlr/zettlr $pkgdir/usr/bin/zettlr

Change it to something like this:ln -s /opt/Zettlr/zettlr $pkgdir/usr/bin/zettlr

I was requested to add a file to bin to make it callable and discoverable without adding it explicitly to PATH. I am making the minor change to add this, however note that the cli for zettlr is not a focus of the developers.https://github.com/Zettlr/Zettlr/issues/297

Zettler orthodontics

In my tests, I need to have a running session of Zettlr for the zettlr command in terminal to work as expected in opening files.

I have implemented this trivial change but will not be implementing a more fancy script to do checking. If you experiment and find a solution that will work for arbitrary window managers as well as X11 and wayland, please contact me and I'll happily add you as a co-maintainer to manage this functionality.

@yochananmarqos I have not found that they are required for arch installs or running. Libnotify is the only I think might be needed, unclear at the moment. I am not going to require many gnome libraries for this package.

@mr.benedikt I'll think about adding that when I update for the next release. I think however that the export system is being changed such that it has more general calls. But these may be pandoc regardless.

The dependencies should be: gconflibnotifylibappindicator-gtk2libxtstnsslibxss. See the Debian control file.

mr.benedikt commented on 2019-05-15 22:44

pandoc should be an optional depenency, since it used to share (export) files.
